Why ORON
ORON is the result of years of living in and building yurts across Australia and New Zealand. What worked, what didn't, and what we always wished existed. This is that model.
Hand-made pine, heat-treated and varnished. The frame is 60% heavier than our standard yurts, with thicker roof rafters running from the wall to the central compression ring.
Your choice of 5 hardwood French door options is included. So is one hardwood cantilever window, 900mm wide and full height. Curved glass bay windows, 1600mm wide, are optional at $1,250 each. Extra standard windows are $890 each.
Matte-finish 850gsm cover. Waterproof and UV-resistant, for harsh Australian and New Zealand sun and rain. Choose one colour or a combination.
ORON comes with a 3-year warranty on the frame and cover. Sizes run from 5m (20 sqm) to 10m (80 sqm), and the 12m is 100 sqm, priced on application. Insulation is 10mm high-density wool felt, with a natural hemp-cotton liner in 9 tones.
| Diameter | Floor area | Wall height | Centre height | Price, ex GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5m | 20 sqm | 1.9m | 3.15m | $14,350 |
| 6m | 30 sqm | 1.9m | 3.4m | $16,490 |
| 7m | 40 sqm | 1.9m | 3.65m | $18,980 |
| 8m | 50 sqm | 1.9m | 3.9m | $20,980 |
| 9m | 63 sqm | 2.1m | 4.5m | $27,900 |
| 10m | 80 sqm | 2.1m | 4.7m | $32,090 |
| 12m | 100 sqm | 2.1m | 6m | Price on application |
All prices in AUD, ex GST. We are also NZ registered and can invoice in NZD. A 50% deposit starts an order, with the balance due before shipping. The current guide offer sits on top of these prices: 10% off ORON, free hardwood windows, and an extra $500 off with your guide code.

7m ORON
5/5
We were looking for something a little different to create an Airbnb and another income stream on our property. The 7m ORON Yurt gave us the flexibility to build the project in stages without taking on another major renovation. Everyone got involved, and it was fantastic for our boys to see something like this come together from the ground up. The yurt sits in a beautiful, secluded part of our property and is going to become a peaceful off-grid eco retreat with an outdoor bath and fire pit. We're really excited to share this place with others.
8m ORON yoga studio, Perth Hills
5/5
We've just finished our 8m ORON Yurt as a Yoga Studio in Perth Hills. Ryan and his team came up to build our deck and yurt for us and they did it start to finish in 5 days. What an incredible space, so much light and warmth. I can't wait to hold our first Yoga classes and womens circles in this beautiful space! If you've been considering it for a while just go for it!
Eco-retreat project, Western Australia
5/5
We've been working with Ryan and his team over the last 2 years on our eco-retreat project in Western Australia. From the get go they have been incredibly responsive, professional and focussed on our success. We have built 5 yurts so far and have 9 planned in total. We have just built the first of the latest ORON model and I must say the quality is exceptional and a huge step up from the earlier model which we already loved. Their yurts are built from years of personal experience and the results are testament to that. If you're looking for Australia and New Zealands #1 Yurt company you've found them!
5.2m yurt, Tasmania
5/5
I chose a 5.2m Yurt because it's a more affordable option for my lifestyle and I wanted to be closer to nature. It took about 2 days to build with the help of 6 friends. The instructional video was easy to follow and Ryan was a big help. I love the simplicity, independence and quiet that the Yurt gives me. I'm fully off grid in Tasmania. I opted for the double insulation option and also a beautiful large window. I would definitely recommend Yurt in the Dirt!
At Home In The World Family Weekends
5/5
Our experience in working with Ryan from Yurt in the Dirt was exceptional. From the moment of our first enquiry, to our first quote, to keeping us updated all throughout the production and delivery process and all the way to the support he was on hand to offer when we were building our Yurt, his service and attention to detail and his genuine care and assistance was second to none. Ryan was also sensitive to our situation, in launching our latest venture for which we are truly grateful. We want to thank Ryan and the team at Yurt in the Dirt. If you are after a truly high quality product, with exceptional support and assistance you cannot go past Ryan and YITD. Thanks from everyone here, At Home In The World Family Weekends.
8m yurt
5/5
We are so thrilled with our yurt. We bought the 8m one and cannot believe how spacious it is. Dealing with Ryan has been such a pleasure, great to see that old fashioned service is still alive. We were kept in the loop throughout and although we collected it ourselves he has been there the entire process. As for the yurt itself what a great product and so well priced. We had friends and family over two days to build the entire yurt, followed the video and it was easy, heavy but easy. Love the new colours available we were too early for them. We have thoroughly enjoyed the journey and highly recommend Yurt in the Dirt.

Our team
We started Yurt in the Dirt to make alternative accommodation simple and affordable for anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
Not everyone wants to drop a fortune on a build or wait months for tradies. With the land and housing squeeze, more people are finding their own way to make the space they need. A few years ago our team was in the same boat. We set up a yurt on a friend's farm, a place to call home.
Since then we have refined our yurts and domes for the Australian and New Zealand landscape: off-grid retreats, glamping, creative studios and accommodation businesses. We design and check the work from Denmark in Western Australia, manufacture with our crew, and import into Australia and New Zealand. Yurt in the Dirt was established in 2022. The craftsmen we build with have been making yurts for over 15 years, and we visit the workshop through the year.
Our products are not for everyone. Your site, your council and the way you want to use the space all decide whether a yurt or dome is the right call. The guide is where we ask you to start, before you spend anything.
If you like to do things differently, you are in good company.
How it works
Use the guide to match a diameter to the way you will use the room. ORON runs from 5m to 12m. Marking the circle out on your site is the simplest way to feel the footprint before you decide.
The kit is the structure. The platform, the trip from the port to your gate, and the fit-out sit outside that price. The guide covers the path from size to deck, including off-grid and decking plans from our build crew.
We ship to your nearest major port: Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Brisbane. That leg is included. Final delivery from the port warehouse is extra, and we can arrange it, or you can collect. Tasmania and New Zealand freight is usually $1,500 or less. Timing is often around 10 to 12 weeks, and it moves, so ask us what is current rather than locking a date from this page.
DIY with our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance, or a builder from our network. Most clients put the yurt up with friends or family in 2 to 3 days. The platform is a separate job and usually wants basic carpentry. We can build in the South-West of WA, and we connect people with builders further afield. Tanya Green's deck and 8m ORON in the Perth Hills was one of those builds: our team, start to finish, in 5 days.

Before you buy
The questions we hear before a deposit. Nothing here promises council approval, a permanent dwelling, or a fixed delivery date.
Council rules for yurts and domes vary widely across Australia. Many councils classify them as temporary structures not requiring approval, but this is not guaranteed. We market our products as glamping tents, and local regulations still apply based on how you intend to use the space.
Check with your local council about your block before you purchase. We do not promise that you can skip approval.
You can live in a yurt in Australia, but that does not mean it will be approved as a permanent dwelling. Many of our clients live in yurts or domes full time, and not all of them have approvals. ORON is not sold as a house, and it does not currently meet Australian Building Standards for a permanent dwelling. Sort that with your council before you plan your life around it.
Delivery usually takes around 10 to 12 weeks from order to arrival at your nearest Australian or New Zealand capital-city port. Lead times change through the year. If you have a deadline, call us and we will tell you what is current. This page does not lock in a delivery date.
Shipping to Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide or Brisbane is included. The last leg from the port warehouse to your site is extra. We can arrange it, or you can collect with a suitable trailer or your own courier. Tasmania and New Zealand orders usually add $1,500 or less in freight.
The structure: frame, rafters, compression ring and lattice, the 850gsm matte cover, 10mm wool felt insulation, the hemp-cotton liner, one floor-to-ceiling opening window, your choice of 5 French door options, a clear or tinted 10mm acrylic dome skylight, and the assembly hardware. Shipping to a major Australian port is included.
Not included: GST, the platform or deck, final delivery from the port, and fit-out such as power and water. Decking plans are available for every size.
Most clients install with friends or family. You get our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance, plus phone support. A first yurt build is usually 2 to 3 days. The cover on the larger sizes needs 3 or 4 people, and you will want a large A-frame ladder or scaffold.
The platform is separate and needs a level, raised base. A timber deck is the most common path. If you would rather hand the build over, we install in the South-West of WA and we have a growing network of builders across Australia and New Zealand we can connect you with.
ORON comes with a 3-year warranty on the frame and the cover. It covers defects in materials or workmanship under normal, intended use. It does not cover normal wear and tear, damage people cause, or natural disasters such as fire, flood or storm. Full terms are on our terms page.
Covers usually last around 7 years before they need replacing. A replacement at that point is roughly $2,000 delivered, depending on size. The frame, doors and windows can last 15 years or more with basic care: wash the cover, check the silicone once a year, and sand and re-varnish the door and window timber every 2 to 3 years.
The round shape spreads wind around the structure. ORON typically handles winds up to around 100 km/h. It is not cyclone rated, and it is not warrantied against severe weather damage. It is a strong choice for wind, rain, hail and temperature swings when it is installed properly, and it is not the right product for cyclone areas in cyclone season.
