Frequently Asked Questions
Yurt FAQ's
What is a yurt and what makes it unique?
Yurts have been used by nomadic people in Central Asia for thousands of years, and it is possible that they have been used since 600 BC or even earlier. The first written records of yurts date back to the Han Dynasty in China from around 200BC and describe the nomadic lifestyle of the tribes and the portable dwelling structures that they used. Over time, yurts have evolved and have become popular as alternative housing options for people looking for eco-friendly and low-cost housing solutions. Today, yurts are widely used as holiday homes, guest houses, yoga studios, and more. They offer a unique blend of modern comforts and traditional charm, providing a living experience that is both peaceful and connected to nature. Yurts offer a sustainable alternative to traditional housing and provide an opportunity to live a simpler, more sustainable lifestyle.

Do you offer any warranty on your Yurts?
We stand behind the quality of our yurts and are proud to offer a 3-year warranty on the frame and cover. This warranty covers any defects in materials or workmanship that may arise during normal and intended use of the product. Please note that the warranty does not cover any man-made damage or natural disasters, such as but not limited to fires, floods or storms, nor does it cover general wear and tear. Our warranty is subject to the following terms and conditions:
The warranty is only valid for the original purchaser of the yurt, and is not transferable.
The warranty only covers defects in materials or workmanship that arise during the normal and intended use of the yurt. It does not cover any damages resulting from misuse, neglect, abuse, accidents, or alterations made to the yurt, or general wear and tear.
To make a warranty claim, the original purchaser must contact us and provide proof of purchase.
Our obligation under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing, at our discretion, any defective part or component of the yurt. If we determine that the defect is not covered by the warranty, we will provide an estimate for any necessary repairs or replacements.
Any repairs or replacements made under the warranty will be made with comparable materials and may not be an exact match to the original yurt.
The warranty does not cover any costs associated with removing or reinstalling the yurt or any of its components.
This warranty is void if the yurt has been subject to any modifications, repairs or alterations by a person or entity other than the manufacturer.
We trust you will love the quality of your Yurt for years to come, we know we do!
How long does a Yurt last?
Our Yurts will keep you covered and cozy for many years to come with proper care and maintenance. They can typically withstand Aussie conditions for over 10 years, at which point you could simply replace the outer cover if needed.
Do you provide installation services for your Yurts?
Typically we don't offer installation of our Yurts, but most of our clients find the process easy enough to perform themselves or with some help from friends or family (apart from the initial building on the sub-frame / base which sometimes requires additional expertise depending what type of base you opt for). We can certainly guide you through the process and offer advice if you do need to engage a tradesman. In some cases we may be able to provide a quote for installation. Feel free to contact us to discuss your requirements.
What are the zoning and building code requirements for setting up a Yurt on my property?
The zoning and building code requirements for setting up a Yurt on your property will vary depending on your location. Some localities may deem this a temporary structure not requiring approval, however please check with your local authorities for specific requirements and regulations.
How do I maintain my Yurt once it is set up?
Regular cleaning and maintenance of your Yurt's covering, windows, and doors will help keep it in good condition. If your Yurt is installed correctly it will be waterproof, and as long as you regularly inspect your Yurt you shouldn't have any issues with mould and mildew as is the case with some more traditional Yurts. Our Yurts are ideal for Australian conditions and offer plenty of ventilation.
Can I see a Yurt before I purchase it?
Unfortunately we don't have a display location at this time, but we can provide plenty of extra photos / videos and answer any queries you may have.
If you're after an idea of the space... then the best method we suggest is to get a ground stake and piece of rope, take it down to your local park and draw a circle of the correct diameter, this will allow you to see the floor space of your Yurt. Use some kind of wash-off paint of-course!
What is your return policy?
At Yurt in the Dirt, we take pride in providing high-quality Yurts and Geo Domes. We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase, and we stand behind the consumer guarantees provided by Australian Consumer Law.
If you believe that your Yurt or Geo Dome is faulty, does not meet the consumer guarantees, or is not fit for its intended purpose, please contact us immediately upon receiving your shipment.
We will provide you with a repair, replacement, or refund as required. Please note that any return, repair or refund is subject to proof of purchase.
