I chose a 5.2m Yurt because it’s a more affordable option for my lifestyle and I wanted to be closer to nature. It took about 2 days to build with the help of 6 friends. The instructional video was easy to follow and Ryan was a big help. I love the simplicity, independence and quiet that the Yurt gives me. I’m fully off grid in Tasmania. I opted for the double insulation option and also a beautiful large window. I would definitely recommend Yurt in the Dirt! Readmore

Our experience in working with Ryan from Yurt in the Dirt was exceptional. From the moment of our first enquiry, to our first quote, to keeping us updated all throughout the production and delivery process and all the way to the support he was on hand to offer when we were building our Yurt, his service and attention to detail and his genuine care and assistance was second to none. Ryan was also sensitive to our situation, in launching our latest venture for which we are truly grateful. We want to thank Ryan and the team at Yurt in the Dirt. With zero exaggeration, dealing with Ryan at ‘Yurt in the Dirt’ has been an incredible experience. His customer service is exceptional, genuine and facilitative. From my initial contact, through months of communication up to financially committing to our purchase (we could have been wasting his time), Ryan was always responsive, informative, patient and generous. This service continued right throughout the build and has continued since. We would absolutely love to meet this man in person should we ever travel to W.A. Oh, and our 8m yurt is AMAZING! My husband and I are pleased, proud and content with choosing this for a living arrangement. These structures are nothing short of being both functional and magical. There’s so much room to create a space within them that is specific to your needs and your individual aesthetic. If you’re hesitating…. don’t! Ryan has the best customer service skills I’ve engaged in a long while – and he’s selling a great product! Read more

I’m stoked to have our new office up and running. Ryan was very responsive from beginning to end and the yurt was relatively easy to build. The 5.2m Yurt makes a great home office and sits just below the 20sqm rule for local council.

We are so thrilled with our yurt. We bought the 8m one and cannot believe how spacious it is. Dealing with Ryan has been such a pleasure, great to see that old fashioned service is still alive. We were kept in the loop throughout and although we collected it ourselves he has been there the entire process. As for the yurt itself what a great product and so well priced. We had friends and family over two days to build the entire yurt, followed the video and it was easy, heavy but easy. Love the new colours available we were too early for them. We have thoroughly enjoyed the journey and highly recommend Yurt in the Dirt. Read more

These are not included and will need to be arranged separately. Get in touch to request our decking plans. Alternatively you could pour a circular concrete pad or other raised surface.

A rewarding experience

The joy of building your Geo Dome is reminiscent of the old homesteading “barn raising party” – Get some friends and family around to help and create memories that will last a lifetime!

Temporary installation

Geo Domes can also be ideal for temporary or informal installations such as events, pop-up stalls, showroom etc. If you plan on this type of installation, we have a ground anchor kit to allow you to fix on a grass surface or similar.

Difficulty

Your Geo Dome is fairly simple to build and can usually be done in a few short days with simple tools, depending on how handy you are. The most difficult part is placing the outer cover over the frame. The outer cover is heavy and will need 3 – 4 people to lift for the larger diameter sizes. You will need a large A-frame ladder or a scaffold to reach up to dome height.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Straight answers to your top questions

What about council approvals?

Council rules for yurts and domes vary widely across Australia. Many councils classify them as temporary structures not requiring approval, but this isn’t guaranteed. We market our products as ‘glamping tents,’ but local regulations still apply based on your intended use.

Key considerations:

Your deck/platform may require approval even if the structure doesn’t

For tourism/glamping businesses, we’ve successfully obtained approvals and can connect you with experienced planners

For residential use, be aware that yurts/domes don’t currently comply with Australian Building Standards

Rural and off-grid properties typically face fewer restrictions

We recommend checking with your local council about your specific situation before purchasing.

How long do they last?

Outer covers last 7-10 years before needing replacement (a replacement cover at that stage will cost around $2,000 depending on size). The frame, doors, and windows can last 15+ years with proper maintenance.

Where are your products made?

We manufacture our products in China and import to Australia & NZ. We consistently refine our Yurts and Domes here in WA. We are hands-on with client builds and visit our manufacturing facility often to ensure the quality of our products

Do you have building/installation services?

Most clients install themselves with friends or family. We provide decking plans, comprehensive guides and phone support. For the sub-frame/base, some expertise may be needed but many of our clients have also built their own decks. We can offer installation in South-West WA and have a growing network of installers across Australia & NZ we can connect you with.

Can I see one before I buy?

Yes. We have some display models in Southwest, WA and a growing network of customers across Australia who can show you their setups. You may even book a night with one of our Air Bnb clients. Also check out our client videos and detailed photos. To visualize the size, use a stake and rope to mark out the diameter on your property.
