ORON is the yurt we always wished existed. It comes out of years of living in yurts and building them with clients around Australia and New Zealand. We kept what worked, fixed what didn't, and added the things people kept asking for.
This guide covers the lot: what ORON is made of, how it handles our weather, the sizes, what's in the price and how it goes together.
What is the ORON yurt?
ORON is the top of our range. It's a round, timber-framed yurt with a lattice wall, roof rafters running up to a central compression ring and a big dome skylight in the middle. Same basic idea people have relied on for thousands of years. Very different build quality.
Next to our standard yurts, everything on ORON is heavier and better finished. The frame is 60% heavier. The rafters are thicker. The windows run floor to ceiling. The liner is a natural hemp-cotton fabric instead of a synthetic. The doors are proper French doors.
People use ORON for guest stays and glamping, yoga and wellness studios, home offices, creative studios and eco retreats. Tanya Green runs yoga out of her 8m in the Perth Hills. The Glover family are turning their 7m into an Airbnb retreat. Glen Mitchell's first ORON, an 8m, is the newest addition to his eco-retreat project in WA.
What is ORON made of?
This is where most of the money goes, so here's the full breakdown.
| Part | What ORON uses | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Frame | Heat-treated, varnished pine, hand made. 60% heavier than our standard yurts | More timber in the frame means a yurt that looks and feels solid |
| Roof rafters | Thicker, heavy duty rafters from the wall frame to the central compression ring | Better support for the roof, the insulation and the skylight |
| Doors and windows | Hardwood | These are the parts you touch and open every day, so they get the hardest-wearing timber |
| Outer cover | 850gsm matte finish, waterproof and UV resistant | Built for harsh Aussie and NZ sun and rain. The matte finish looks less like a tent and more like a building |
| Insulation | 10mm high density wool felt as standard, between the liner and the cover | Wool felt is mould resistant and keeps the inside comfortable through the seasons |
| Interior liner | Natural hemp-cotton fabric in 9 tones | Soft, warm light inside and a natural finish you can match to your fit-out |
| Skylight | 10mm acrylic dome, clear or tinted | Strong enough to stand on and lets in a huge amount of daylight |

The cover is the bit people ask about most. It's 850gsm, finished matte, fully waterproof and UV resistant. Our covers usually last around 7 years before they need replacing, and a replacement at that point is roughly $2,000 delivered depending on size. The frame, doors and windows can last 15 years or more with basic care.
What windows and doors come with ORON?
Light is a big part of what makes ORON feel different inside, so the glazing got a lot of attention.
- One floor-to-ceiling window included. It's a cantilever opening window, 900mm wide and full height. Extra standard windows are $890 each.
- Curved glass bay windows, optional. Fixed frame, 1600mm wide and full height, $1,250 each. Put two or three side by side and you get a panoramic wall facing your best view.
- Your choice of 5 French door options, included. You can add more doors, including solid 900mm single doors for an adjoining bathroom or a second room.

How does ORON handle Australian weather?
The round shape spreads wind load evenly around the structure, which is why yurts have stood up in harsh climates for so long. ORON typically handles winds up to around 100km/h. It isn't cyclone rated, so it's not the right choice for cyclone areas.
Insulation is where you tune ORON to your climate:
| Your climate | What we'd suggest | Cost (ex GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Mild, most of southern Australia | Standard 10mm wool felt | Included |
| Cold winters, like Tasmania or the high country | Double layer of wool felt | $750 |
| Hot summers | Reflective air-cell layer on top of the wool felt | $750 |
Mould comes up a lot with older-style canvas yurts. ORON uses mould resistant wool felt, a fully waterproof cover when installed correctly, and opening glass windows so you can move air through. Keep it clean, check your seals and you shouldn't have trouble. A tinted skylight is also an option if you'd rather take the edge off the summer sun.
What sizes does ORON come in?
Seven sizes, from a snug 5m studio up to the 12m ORON for big groups. The 9m, 10m and 12m step up to a taller 2.1m wall.

| 7m | 40 sqm | 1.9m | 3.65m | $18,980 |

How is ORON put together?
Most of our clients build their own with friends or family. A first-time build of the yurt itself usually takes 2 to 3 days with 2 to 4 people for the smaller sizes and 4 or more for the bigger ones. You need basic tools, a big A-frame ladder or scaffold, and a few strong people for the day the cover goes on.
The platform is a separate job. It needs to be level, solid and the same diameter as the yurt, and raised enough that the cover sheds water properly. A timber deck is the most popular option and we provide decking plans. Allow another 2 to 3 days for that, depending on your site.
You get our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance to work from. If you'd rather hand it over, full deck-and-yurt builds are available in Perth and around Australia through a network of builders we connect people with. Tanya's yoga studio in the Perth Hills is one example. Our team built her deck and yurt, start to finish, in 5 days.
What do ORON owners say?
We have built 5 yurts so far and have 9 planned in total. We have just built the first of the latest ORON model and I must say the quality is exceptional and a huge step up from the earlier model which we already loved. Their yurts are built from years of personal experience and the results are testament to that.
Glen Mitchell, 8m ORON, eco-retreat project, Western Australia
The 7m ORON Yurt gave us the flexibility to build the project in stages without taking on another major renovation. Everyone got involved, and it was fantastic for our boys to see something like this come together from the ground up.

How long does ORON last, and what's the warranty?
ORON comes with a 3-year warranty on the frame and the cover. It covers defects in materials or workmanship under normal, intended use. It doesn't cover normal wear and tear, damage people cause, or natural disasters like fire, flood and storms. Full terms are on our FAQ page.
Day to day, ORON doesn't ask for much. Wash the cover with mild detergent and a soft brush, check the silicone around windows and doors once a year (especially before winter), tighten fixings and oil hinges, and sand and re-varnish the timber on the doors and window strips every 2 to 3 years. We stock every component, so if a window breaks or you want to add a door later, we can sort it.
Frequently asked questions
What sizes does ORON come in?
Seven: 5m, 6m, 7m, 8m, 9m, 10m and 12m. Listed prices run from $14,350 ex GST for the 5m to $32,090 for the 10m (Oct 2026). The 12m ORON is 100m², with a 2.1m wall and a 6m centre height, and is priced on application.
Is ORON a DIY yurt?
It can be. Most clients assemble ORON themselves in 2 to 3 days with friends or family, using our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance. The platform takes basic carpentry skills. If you'd rather not build it, full deck-and-yurt builds are available in Perth and around Australia through a network of builders we connect people with.
What is the ORON frame made of?
Heat-treated, varnished pine, hand made and 60% heavier than our standard yurts, with thicker roof rafters. The doors and windows are hardwood.
How thick is the ORON cover?
The outer cover is 850gsm with a matte finish. It's waterproof and UV resistant, and our covers usually last around 7 years before needing replacement.
Can I see an ORON before I buy?
Yes. We have display models in South-West WA and a growing network of clients around Australia who may be happy to show you theirs. Some clients run their yurts on Airbnb, so you may be able to book a night.
Do you offer finance?
Yes. Finance is available for eligible purchases, usually starting from around $500 a month. Get in touch and we'll point you to our finance partner.
Is ORON suitable for cyclone areas?
No. ORON typically handles winds up to around 100km/h and spreads wind load well thanks to its round shape, but it isn't cyclone rated and isn't warrantied against severe weather damage.
