Picking a size is the biggest decision you'll make with ORON. Too small and you'll be squeezing furniture around the curve. Too big and you've paid for space you don't use. Here's how we'd think it through.
What are the exact ORON dimensions?
| Diameter | Floor area | Wall height | Centre (dome) height | Price, ex GST |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5m | 20 sqm | 1.9m | 3.15m | $14,350 |
| 6m | 30 sqm | 1.9m | 3.4m | $16,490 |
| 7m | 40 sqm | 1.9m | 3.65m | $18,980 |
| 8m | 50 sqm | 1.9m | 3.9m | $20,980 |
| 9m | 63 sqm | 2.1m | 4.5m | $27,900 |
| 10m | 80 sqm | 2.1m | 4.7m | $32,090 |
| 12m | 100m² | 2.1m | 6m | Price on application |
The 12m ORON has 100m² of floor, a 2.1m wall and 6m under the centre of the dome. It is priced on application.
Two numbers matter as much as floor area. Wall height is how tall the lattice wall is before the roof starts to slope in, 1.9m on the 5m to 8m and 2.1m on the 9m, 10m and 12m. Centre height is the height under the middle of the dome, from 3.15m on a 5m to 6m on a 12m.
What is each ORON size best for?
The studio
Home office, art room, music room or a quiet retreat for one. Simple to build and the easiest to place on a smaller block.
The cosy guest stay
Room for a bed and a sitting area, or a studio with space to spread out. A popular all-rounder.
The retreat
A proper guest stay with a lounge area. The Glover family chose a 7m for their Airbnb eco retreat.
The studio for classes
Open floor for yoga, wellness or workshops, or a roomy guest stay. Tanya Green's yoga studio is an 8m.
The big room
The wall steps up to 2.1m, so the edges feel more usable. Good for group spaces and larger fit-outs.
The gathering space
Retreats, workshops, events and anything that needs a crowd. 4.7m under the dome.
The biggest ORON
For when 10m isn't enough: larger retreats, events and shared spaces. It has 100m² of floor, a 2.1m wall and 6m under the dome. Price on application.
Prices in AUD ex GST, as listed Oct 2026.
How do floor area and height change the feel?
In a round building, the space near the wall is lower than the space in the middle. That's fine for beds, benches, desks and kitchen runs, which all sit happily against a 1.9m wall. Standing room is in the middle, under the dome.
So when you're comparing sizes, think about what needs to go around the edge and how much open floor you want in the centre. Going from 6m to 7m adds 10 sqm, and most of it ends up as usable space around the wall. On the 9m, 10m and 12m, the taller 2.1m wall makes the outer ring feel noticeably roomier.

What sizes do real ORON owners choose?
| Owner | Size | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Tanya Green, Perth Hills | 8m | Yoga studio, with yoga classes and women's circles planned |
| The Glover family | 7m | Airbnb and a second income stream, planned as an off-grid eco retreat with an outdoor bath and fire pit |
| Glen Mitchell, WA | 8m | His first ORON, part of an eco-retreat project with 5 yurts built so far and 9 planned |
The 7m ORON Yurt gave us the flexibility to build the project in stages without taking on another major renovation. Everyone got involved, and it was fantastic for our boys to see something like this come together from the ground up.

How do I test a size on my land?
- Add the platform. Your deck needs to be the same diameter as the yurt, and many people add a wrap-around deck on top of that. Mark that too.
- Check access. Your ORON arrives at the port warehouse and comes to site by our arranged delivery or your own trailer or courier. Make sure there's a way in for it.
- Stand in the doorway. Face where your French doors and windows will go. Is that the view you want?
Does size change the build?
A little. Smaller ORONs go up with 2 to 4 people. For the bigger sizes, plan on 4 or more. The cover is the heaviest piece and needs 3 to 4 people to lift on the larger diameters. You'll also need a big A-frame ladder or scaffold to reach the top of the dome, which is 4.5m on a 9m, 4.7m on a 10m and 6m on a 12m.

Either way, first-time builds usually take 2 to 3 days for the yurt itself, plus the platform. Most people DIY with our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance. If you'd rather not, full deck-and-yurt builds are available in Perth and around Australia through a network of builders we connect people with.
How does the price change with size?
Price goes up with size, but the cost per square metre comes down. A 5m works out around $718 per sqm and a 10m around $401. The ORON cost guide has the full breakdown, upgrade prices and a worked example.
