Tanya Green knew exactly what her yurt was for: a yoga studio in the Perth Hills where she could hold classes and women's circles.

What did Tanya want?

A dedicated space for yoga. Somewhere with plenty of open floor, good light and a calm feel, where she could run classes and host women's circles. She asked us to build the lot, deck included.

Why an 8m ORON?

When people are moving around a room, floor area and height matter most. The 8m ORON gives Tanya:

A round room with no corners suits a class. Everyone faces in, the light falls evenly from the dome, and there's no back row stuck in a dark corner.

How did the build go?

Our team came up and built both the deck and the yurt for Tanya. Start to finish, it took 5 days.

The deck went in first. Any ORON platform needs to be level, solid and the same diameter as the yurt. Then came the yurt itself: lattice wall, the heavier ORON rafters and compression ring, the 10mm acrylic dome skylight, wool felt insulation, hemp-cotton liner, the 850gsm matte cover, and proper glass, opening windows and doors.

Five days is what Tanya's build took with our team on her site. Every site is different, so treat it as a real example rather than a promise.

What makes the space work for yoga?

Tanya summed it up in two words: light and warmth. Here's where they come from.

  • Light. The 10mm acrylic dome skylight sits right over the centre of the room. Tanya added plenty of glass around the walls too: four standard floor-to-ceiling windows and one large curved glass bay window.
  • Warmth. 10mm high density wool felt sits between the liner and the cover, and the natural hemp-cotton liner gives the room a soft, warm tone.
  • Feel. The heat-treated, varnished pine frame is on show from the inside, and it's 60% heavier than our standard yurts. It looks and feels solid.

Can I see Tanya's studio?

Yes. Here's the short film of it.

What does Tanya say?

We've just finished our 8m ORON Yurt as a Yoga Studio in Perth Hills. Ryan and his team came up to build our deck and yurt for us and they did it start to finish in 5 days. What an incredible space, so much light and warmth. I can't wait to hold our first Yoga classes and womens circles in this beautiful space! If you've been considering it for a while just go for it!

Could I build something similar?

Yes. An 8m ORON is listed at $20,980 ex GST (Oct 2026), with shipping to your nearest major port included.

Most of our clients build their own, using our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance. If you'd rather have it done for you, the way Tanya did, full deck-and-yurt builds are available in Perth and around Australia through a network of builders we connect people with.

If you're weighing up sizes, the ORON size guide will help, and the backyard studio guide covers other ways to use the space.

Frequently asked questions

How long did Tanya's ORON take to build?

Our team built Tanya's deck and 8m ORON start to finish in 5 days. Build times depend on the site, so take it as a real example rather than a promise.

Did Tanya build the yurt herself?

No. Tanya had our team build both the deck and the yurt. Most of our clients do build their own ORON, though, using our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance. The yurt itself usually takes 2 to 3 days once the platform is ready.

Can you build the deck and yurt for me?

Yes. Full deck-and-yurt builds are available in Perth and around Australia through a network of builders we connect people with. Most clients still DIY, using our decking plans, video instructions and project guidance.

What windows does Tanya's ORON have?

Four standard floor-to-ceiling windows and one large curved glass bay window, with the 10mm acrylic dome skylight overhead.

Why is an 8m ORON good for a yoga studio?

It gives you 50 sqm of open, round floor with a 3.9m centre height, a dome skylight overhead and a floor-to-ceiling window, so the light is even and the room feels open.

How much is an 8m ORON?

$20,980 in AUD, excluding GST, as listed in October 2026. Shipping to your nearest major port is included. The platform, final delivery and fit-out are extra.

Is an ORON warm enough for winter classes?

ORON comes with 10mm wool felt insulation as standard, and you can add a second layer for $750 if you're somewhere cold. Tanya describes her studio as having "so much light and warmth".

Thinking about your own studio?

Tanya's advice was to just go for it. Talk to our team first and we'll work out the right size and setup for your site.

A few years back we set up a yurt on a friend's farm and called it home. Since then our team has spent years living in, building and refining yurts across Australia and New Zealand. ORON is what came out of all that.
